mislabelled (2025)
mislabelled comprises five stacked Vegemite jars, each bearing a different misspelling of my name drawn from real encounters—messages, emails, and coffee orders. By collecting and repeating these instances, the work reframes them as cumulative acts of misrecognition rather than isolated mistakes. Through this accumulation, mislabelled points to how Whiteness operates subtly and persistently, not only through overt exclusion but through everyday acts of categorisation and othering.
